Gore and Violence for Entertainment

Exposure to violence and gore in the media is causing people to become desensitized, particularly children and adolescents who are still developing their sense of empathy and understanding of the consequences of violent actions.

Repeated exposure to violent content is not only affecting people’s ability to sympathize, but causing increased cases of violence in real life, devaluation of life and a lack of empathy for others.

It is only natural for people to be deeply affected by real-life violence – but these important emotions, feelings and reactions, are being increasingly numbed as a result of exposure to violent content in the media.

The impact of violent media on individuals and society as a whole is adverse. The media should be held responsible and regulated to ensure that children and vulnerable populations are protected from exposure to unnecessary violent content.

Including a total prohibition on violent content that serves no purpose other than entertainment.
